For a newbie you should calculate with roughly 2000 hours to build one from scratch. You spent a lot of time in searching for material, making tools and trying to understand what might be the best way to build the components. Of course it also depends very much on your personal skills, your workshop and last but not least your quality demand.
A good idea is to look for a abandoned project which very often go for just the price of the material. Once you have find one you´ll be well advised to look for help from an experienced builder to have a look at it before buying it. If you have found your love you also have to inform Michael Platzer about your intention. Thats very important cause he has to accept you as the new licence holder.
